FEATURE in The Washington Post - On Making Picture Books

Loanstar Junior Top 10 Pick

Kirkus - “Young readers glean that antithetical personalities can work beautifully together and that contrapuntal viewpoints can produce an amazing synthesis.... Sweetly offers essential, timely lessons about aligning with those different from oneself.”

Booklist - “This sweet story is ideally illustrated in MacKay’s signature, light-filled diorama style, set in an enchanted forest of gentle greens, yellows, pinks, and blues. A little drama, a trusty moral, and a happy ending make for a satisfying tale.”

Canlit for Little Canadians - “Couple [MacKay’s] art with fairies and a competition that transforms into cooperation and partnership and The Tallest Tree House becomes a winner for all readers.

A Junior Library Guild selection! I hope this book will help to keep this folk wisdom alive and get kids to look closely at the natural world. It is a collection of weather sayings that follow the story of a grandfather taking his grandchildren on a camping trip. They have to get home before the storm arrives. The back of the book shares information on which sayings are true and why. This one is dear to my heart and I am so excited to share it. I loved working on this with @kelly_anne_hill and @tarawalker19. And thankful for advice from @kallie.george and meteorologist Phil Chadwick.

Interested in the science behind the sayings in Red Sky at Night? Meteorologist, Phil Chadwick dives deeper for us, here: http://philtheforecaster.blogspot.com/
